Biography

World renowned skin and cancer expert and scientific director of SLKIP Inc. Prof Giovanni Pellacani is the Chief of Dermatology at La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy and is one of the founding fathers of virtual biopsy with reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) clinical application and terminology as we know it today. Author of several hundred publications in the topic of dermoscopy and RCM, editor of multiple dermatology textbooks and president of the 2019 World Congress of Dermatology in Milan Italy.  Prof. Pellacani is a major authority in field of dermatology and skin cancer and heads the only international recognized RCM training program and has successfully trained and certified several hundred doctors from countries including the USA, UK, the EU, China, Brazil and the Middle East. He practices research mainly in the field of cutaneous physiopathology, skin bioengineering for the evaluation of inflammatory diseases, non-invasive diagnosis in dermato-oncology, since 1995. In particular, melanoma and pigmented skin lesions, their early identification by means of dermoscopy in combination with system for image analysis and automated diagnosis, and in vivo reflectance-mode confocal scanning laser microscopy for the study of cytological and architectural aspects of the skin and of skin lesions, in correlation with dermoscopy and histopathology are the present fields of research.
